How to configure SQL Server 2005 Express if the installation utility was not used.
Procedure Steps
1) Click the Start button, then select All Programs > SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager.
2) Expand SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration and click Protocols for MSSQLSERVER.
3) Make sure that the TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols are enabled. If they are not, right-click the protocol and select Enable.
4) Exit SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration.
5) Click the Start button, then select All Programs > SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration.
6) Click the Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections link.
7) Expand MSSQLSERVER > Database Engine and click Remote Connections. Enable the Local and remote connections and Using both TCP/IP and Named Pipes radio buttons.
