How to install SQL Server Management Studio for SQL Server 2008 Express
Procedure Steps
- From the OnGuard Supplemental Materials disc (revision 9 or later), browse to the Prerequisite Software folder, and then to the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express folder.
- If you have a 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows, execute SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe.
If you have a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows, execute SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe. - Click [Installation], and then click [New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation].
- The Setup Support Rules window identifies potential problems that might occur during installation. Correct any failures before continuing setup. If setup identifies no problems, click [OK].
- In the Setup Support Files window, click [Install].
- After the setup files have been installed, the Setup Support Rules will run again to identify potential issues. Resolve any failures before continuing setup. Once the check has completed successfully, click [Next].
- In the Installation Type window, select Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2008 and then click [Next].
- In the Product Key window, click [Next].
- In the License Terms window, select I accept the license terms, and then click [Next].
- In the Feature Selection window, select Management Tools - Basic, and then click [Next].
- Review the disk space requirements information and then click [Next] if there is sufficient space on the disk.
- In the Error and Usage Report Settings window, deselect both options. Click [Next].
- The Installation Rules window identifies if anything would stop the installation process. If there are no failures, click [Next].
- In the Ready to Install window, click [Install] to begin the installation.
- After the installation process finishes, click [Next].
- In the Complete window, click [Close].
