How to install and configure SQL Server 2005 Express

Procedure Steps

To configure SQL Server 2005 Express when the installation utility was not used, complete the following steps:

Note: If preferable, uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express and delete the Microsoft SQL Server folder, restart the computer, and reinstall SQL Server 2005 Express using the installation utility found at customer.lenel.com in Technical Support Tools > Installation Tools.

After SQL Server 2005 Express is installed, configure SQL Server 2005 Express to work with OnGuard.

1) Open SQL Server Configuration Manager. Click the Start button, then select Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager.

2) Expand SQL Server Network Configuration, and then select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER.

3) Ensure that TCP/IP and Name Pipes are enabled.

4) If they are not, right-click the protocol and select Enable.

5) Open SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. Click the Start button, then select Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.

6) Select the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections.

7) Expand Database Engine, and then select Remote Connections.

8) Ensure that the following radio buttons are selected:
- Local and remote connections
- Using both TCP/IP and named pipes
