Windows 10 DLL files fail to register

Symptom

DLLs fail to register during installation of OnGuard software on a Windows 10 machine.

Resolution

Enable the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel

You can enable the .NET Framework 3.5 through the Windows Control Panel. This option requires an Internet connection.

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, type "Windows Features" in the search field, and then press [Enter]. The Turn Windows Features dialog opens.
  2. Select the .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) check box, click [OK], and then reboot your computer if prompted to do so.

Note: You do not need to select the child items for Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) HTTP Activation and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) Non-HTTP Activation unless you require this functionality.

Once completed, attempt a reinstall or repair of OnGuard to verify if there is still a DLL registration issue.

In the event there is no .NET3.5 available in your system:

1.Type cmd in the Run dialog box , open as administrator
   2.And enter the following line in the Command Prompt: DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:installationMediaDrive:sourcessxs

And follow all steps as above.

Applies To
