Symptom
Error message:
ODBC connection error

Resolution
1. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
2. Expand SQL Server Network Configuration
3. In Protocols for MSSQLSERVER right click on TCP/IP and enable if not enabled then right click and select Properties
4. Select the IP address tab
5. TCP Port should have 1433
6. If this is not specified for each entry (IP1, IP2 etc. all the way to IP-all) add in to each one and apply.
7. On Named pipes, if not enabled enable.
8. Restart the SQL server
