How to fix WMI installation errors

Procedure Steps

WMI installation errors may occur while installing SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2005 Express. To resolve these errors, do the following:

1) Open a Windows command line. To do this, click the Start button and select All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

2) At the command line, type the following:
net stop winmgmt

You may get a warning that other services need to be stopped as well; press <y> and continue.

3) Open Windows Explorer and go to the following folder:
%SystemRoot%\System32\WBEM\Repository

4) Delete that folder and everything in it.

5) Reboot the system normally.

6) On the next login, open a Windows command line and type the following commands in this order:

winmgmt /clearadap

winmgmt /kill

winmgmt /unregserver

winmgmt /regserver

winmgmt /resyncperf

This should resolve the issue(s).
