Analog: Measured by physical (light, sound) changes

Bandwidth: Data transfer rate across a network

Bitrate: Number of bits transmitted over specific time (Mbps)

CIF: Resolution of 352 x 288 (Common Intermediate Format)

Codec: Algorithms use to compress/decompress video

Compression: Reducing the video file size

Digital: Components are expressed in a binary format

FPS: Frames per second

H.264: Video compression format

HTTP: Protocol used to transmit data across internet or network (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)

JPEG: Joint Photographic Experts Group

KeyFrame: Self-contained reference frame (I-Frame)

Latency: Tme to compress, send, decompress, and display the file

MPEG: Moving Picture Experts Group

MPEG-4: Video compression format

MJPEG: Video compression format (Motion JPEG)

NTSC: Analog signal used in North America (National Television System Committee)

ONVIF: Defines a common, open protocol for IP based security components (Open Network Video Interface Forum)

PAL: Analog signal used in Europe (Phase Alternating Line)

Pixel: A point in a digital image with a specific color and intensity

Resolution: Width x Height of displayed image

RTP: Protocol for delivering audio and video over a network (Real Time Protocol)

RTSP: Protocol used to control the streaming of video over a network. Used RTP to transmit the data. (Real Time Streaming Protocol)

TCP: Network communication method using end-to-end/handshaking communication (Transmission Control Protocol)

UDP: Network communication method using one direction protocol (User Datagram Protocol)

Video Servers / video encoders: Hardware that converts analog signal to digital
