How to disable the power saver feature for USB devices

Procedure Steps

Certain USB-powered external devices such as printers, scanners and encoders need to be configured in Windows to not allow the power saver feature to be used. To disable the power saver feature:

1) In Control Panel, double-click on System and then click the Hardware tab.

2) Click [Device Manager].

3) Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
 
4) Right-click on USB Root Hub and then select Properties

5) Click the Power Management tab.

6) Clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.

7) Click [OK].

8) Repeat steps 3 through 7 for any other instance(s) of USB Root Hub under the Universal Serial Bus controllers.

9) Restart the computer.

Additional Information

The USB ROOT HUB power saver settings may cause certain USB devices to drop offline when the system goes into sleep mode.
