Error 25007 during installation of .NET Framework 2.0

During installation of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, you might encounter the following error message:

"Error 25007. Error occurred while initializing fusion. Setup could not load fusion with LoadLibraryShim(). Error: The handle is invalid."

One solution is to follow these steps:

1. Make a copy of the following folder:
   %WINDIR%\WinSxS\Policies
2. Delete folder %WINDIR%\WinSxS\Policies.
3. Retry the installation of the .NET Framework 2.0.

At this point, the error message should not appear.

The .NET Framework 2.0 is a prerequisite for a number of software components, including Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
