Can I use the ''Brightness Change'' detection functionality offered by LNVR with the Axis Q1910 thermal camera?

Question

Can I use the "Brightness Change" detection functionality offered by LNVR with the Axis Q1910 thermal camera?

Answer

Use of LNVR's "Brightness Change" detection is not recommended for the Axis Q1910 thermal camera because the camera's firmware normalizes the video image based on the overall amount of heat in the scene.

When there is very little overall heat in the camera view, the video image is adjusted such that low levels of heat appear to be bright. When a hotter object (for example, a person) enters the camera view, the video image is adjusted such that only high levels of heat appear to be bright. This means that most of the video image will transition suddenly from bright to dark and only the hottest objects will appear bright.

This kind of behavior can lead to false "brightness change" alarms. Since this normalization function is part of the camera firmware and cannot be disabled, the Axis Q1910 should not be used with "Brightness Change" detection.
